Project 1

Module 1

All three activities are used for exploration of the new Technology used for class. These excersises help determine what kind of software we want to use for the next stage of our assignments. Me personally I found these very useful to do, as it gave me a better idea on how I want to implement my final project.

Activity 1: Arduino Practice

Lab Partner: Emily

This is the first LED circut connecting from the arduino board to the bread board. After the first circut we added a resistor to our circut. The resistor is there to prevent the LED from burning out quicker. We later added a button to our circut allowing us to control when the circut is completed. We then replaced the button with a second LED light. Then we changed the flicker speed so the lights would go off at different intervals. As final exploration we decided to add a button to control both lights.

Activity 2: Arduino to Protopie

Lab Partner: Emily

This first photo is us connecting our phone to the Protopie template provided to us in class. We had to download protopie connect and scan a QR code so that the phone would sucessfully display the prototype. This photo shows the arduino hooked up to the computer by USB, the protopie app with the thermostat prototype is active. This is the code on Arduino, at this point in time we had just connected everything. We wanted to make sure everything was working and that the output was set on Protopie. This was the fun part of the activity. When twisting the dial on the sensory board, it simulates changing the thermostat on the phone. The other portion of the sensor board included a humiditiy sensor. This photo is me blowing hot air on the sensor to change the number value on the prototype and the code.

Activity 3

Lab Partner: Emily

This is us making a new touch desinger file for the activity demonstration. We started with DAT files to hook up our Arduino to Touch Designer. This is our files slowly being built up. We added more values and tired to follow Steve's instructions. Admittidly this portion of the activity was hard due to getting used to the complicated UI. This is our sphere before the colours were added. After this we added the colour, material, and shading to the scene. This is the working prototype, it changes when the dial on the sensory board is moved. This is just what the hookup of the arduino to touch designer looks like.

Research Activity

Partners for Project: Emily and Nicole

This research activity was done as a group. All the writing and answers are all from the three of us.

WGSN Consumer Trend Research

For the beginning of our research we all seperately looked into every article on our own. We then came back together and discussed our favourite articles. We narrowed down our choices based on what everyone's interests were. Our priority was to make sure everyone is interested in the general topic area for both categories.

Big Ideas 2027: Consumer Tech was chosen for our first category. We all collectively liked the Power of Play section of the article. Overall we liked this article because it had lots of options to choose from. Though we focused our thought process mainly on the Power of Play Section. Intelligence: APAC Silver Generation Tech Priorities 2026/27 was chosen as our second category. We liked the focus of this article when it came to finding specific users. Another portion of this artcile we all enjoyed was the AI care robot for the elderly. We liked this article for the idea, and were able to come up with some great ideas on our own based on that idea. This is a photo of our first worksheet on a Figma Design Doc

WGSN Personas Research

This section focused on personas that would be applicible with the topics from our articles. We read through the personas together and discussed which out of the four provided would be the strongest match.

Our category 1 persona is the Energizers. We chose this persona because of their hightened interest of play. Their time to experience joy and play is important to them, for their actions they actively go out of their way to try to enjoy life more. This goes well will our ideas regarding The Power of Play from the article. These personas would most likely be interacting with any solution we think of. Our category 2 persona are the Privacy Keepers. We chose this persona because it targets a more timid audience in regards to technology. These people want to understand tech more and the demographic is pointed to the older generations. Since our focus is on senior care from the 2nd article, we thought it would be a perfect fit. This is a photo of our second worksheet on our Figma Design Doc

HMI Research

Our HMW research questions were hard to think of. As a group we have some back and fourth on what kind of problems we could solve with our previous information. Eventually we did come to a consensus on what kinds of questions we would. be looking at.

These two HMW questions were based off of how to fix the lack of connection people have with one another. We want to create a solution involving Play. These two HMW questions have more of an end user in mind than category one. With these statements, me personally I feel like they're more specificied. We made these HMW statements with elderly care in mind, we most likely will have elders as our personas for the project moving forward. This is the research sheet for the thirs activity on our Figma Design Doc.

Project Path

The plan for our projects paths for both categories were great. Both category 1 and category 2 had very different HMW statements and most of our solutions for each were vastly different. As a group we're aiming to work collaboratively together, as we all think it would be fun.

This is a board of some articles of interest that could help up with both the design and the art route. Not sure if these articles would be any good but it was good for the time being. We want to work together as a group for this project. This is a snapshot of our group notes all together. This is the fourth worksheet of research on our Figma Design Doc.

Project 1 Concept

Project 1 Concept : Design Route

For this project, our group has decided to go along with the Design path. We decided on this path because we felt it gave us more direction on who the users are. The concepts below are two of the ideas we discussed together as a group on.

The first illustration is a companion bear similar to the care robot in the article. The difference here is that it would be used for monitoring hospital paitients in a more friendly way. The bear would be connected to an app that shows the state of the paitient, this app can be used by doctors or families. The 2nd image is of a health kiosk, the purpose is for people to receive basic medical care all in one place. This can include, booking a doctor's appointment, getting blood preassure checked, receiving medication, etc. all in one place. It's a private way to get everything done yourself.
